A BMW M3 GTR Hit A Kangaroo At Nearly 140mph During The Bathurst 12 Hour

At some race circuits, track invasion by local wildlife is always going to be a possibility, no matter what measures staff and marshals take to reduce the risk. Anthony Gilbertson, driver of the M3 GTR you can see in action here, found this out first hand at last weekend’s Bathurst 12 hour endurance race. While travelling at 220kph (136mph) in the early stages of the race, a kangaroo attempted to make its way across the circuit, going right into the path of the M3.

With no time to avoid impact, the M3 struck the animal, punching a massive hole in the front-right side of the car and immediately taking it out of the race. The team posted a picture of the damage above on its Facebook page, which you can see above. The car is apparently repairable.

According to the team, Gilbertson spent four hours in hospital as a precaution, after which he returned to the circuit.
