The BMW M4 Convertible Is Here: 425bhp With Added Sex Appeal
A convertible version of the upcoming M4 is hardly a surprising move from BMW, after all, every previous generation of the car apart from the E30 M3 has come with a drop-top option. But, oh my, this latest M4-badged version isn't half pretty.
It promises to be rapid, too: under the bonnet you get a 3.0-litre straight six with two mono-scroll turbochargers - also seen in the coupe - kicking out a lively 425bhp and 406lb/ft of torque to the rear wheels.
It'll do 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds (4.4 for the optional dual-clutch auto transmission), and top out at an electronically-limited 155mph. Despite the pace, the drop-top M4 manages an impressive claimed 31mpg. Though if you can get anywhere near that figure in the real world, you're probably driving it wrong.
In manual form, it weighs 1750kg, 60kg lighter than the old one, and a full 170kg lighter than the comparatively lardy Audi RS5 cabriolet it rivals, which tips the scales at neatly two-tonnes.
Like its E93 M3 predecessor, the M4 has a folding hard top. It'll fold away in 20 seconds, with a useful 'Loading-aid' feature that raises the stowed roof in six seconds so you can fetch your belongings from the boot space underneath.
It'll go on sale in the UK this September priced at £60,730, and will make its public debut at the New York Motor Show later this month.
