This BMW V10-Engined Toyota GT86 Is A Jaw-Dropping Project Build
When choosing an engine to swap into a Toyota GT86, you’d naturally think of 2JZs or LS V8s. Maybe, if you like a bit of JDM cross-pollination, you’d plump for an RB26. Not these guys. These guys have somehow inserted the V10 from a BMW E60 M5 into the little Toyota.
As alarming as that sounds, it actually fits. The 86’s long bonnet has enough space… at least for the block. The gearbox had to be cut and lifted before it would fit. By the way: that gearbox is a manual, not the M5’s fragile SMG. We might have to sit down.
Zoom Garage is behind the incredible transformation. Built for the World Time-Attack Challenge it pairs the phenomenal S85 V10 with the six-speed manual from an E92 M3. It’s not even that nose-heavy, packing a 52:48 weight distribution. The engine is only 20kg heavier than standard thanks to dry sump lubrication. Breathing intensifies.
Put together in just over two months, this is the kind of dream project car that we should all aspire to build one day. Well done, guys. Well done. Check out the video from High Performance Academy and turn up the volume to hear the car at full chat.
