BMW's 7-Series Concept Is A Super-Sleek, Carbonfibre Luxo Barge
The current F01 BMW 7-series has been about since 2008 and now there's a replacement on the way. Previewed by this sleek and sexy Vision Future Luxury concept at the Beijing motor show, the new 7-series concept is packed full of clever tech and neat styling touches that we could be seeing on BMW's next flagship luxury wafter.
The key element to the Vision concept is the carbonfibre construction, in which the front seats are load-bearing structures. The extensive use of carbonfibre is also used in BMW's 'i' brand to cut a car's weight, so you can expect the material to make an appearance on the next '7.
Inside, you get four sculpted seats, with the rears accessed via 'suicide' doors. The interior is lashed with posh wood and leather and features displays with three-dimensional graphics.
The exterior is a bit of a mixed-bag: the rear is elegantly styled, featuring a heavily-sloped rear window, lithe OLED tail lights, deeply recessed brake ducts and an integrated twin-exit exhaust. The front, meanwhile, gets a similarly-slender set of lights, but that oversized version of BMW's trademark kidney grille really isn't a good look.
It's a feature that blights many modern BMWs, including the current '7, so we're hoping this gets toned down in the eventual 7-series replacement.
