The Bonkers Chevrolet Chaparral 2X Restores Our Faith In Gran Turismo Vision Concepts

Just when we were getting a bit bored with the Gran Turismo 6 Vision Concepts - particularly with the arrival of the Subaru Vizig - this happened. Dubbed the ‘Chaparral 2X’ (a nod to the old Chaparral Cars racing team) it’s Chevrolet’s way of throwing its hat into the GT6 Vision ring, and it’s a little bit mad. It’s a single seater, although to say it has a seat at all is a bit of a stretch: the poor virtual driver lays on his or her front with their arms and legs splayed.

It laughs in the face of all the hybrid GT6 Visions that have come before it, with the power coming from a ‘laser-based propulsion system.’ According to Chevrolet, this “pulses beams of light that focus in a shroud, creating shock waves that generate tremendous thrust.” How much thrust? 900bhp, apparently. This will let you do 0-60mph in 1.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 240mph in the game.

Want to take a closer look at this futuristic machine? A full scale model is currently on display at the LA Motor Show, and the car is available in game via an update download.
