Brace Yourselves: The Next Nissan Z Car Will Probably Be A Crossover
For all its faults, we like the Nissan 370Z very much. After all, it has the perfect recipe for a petrolhead-friendly motor: six cylinders, rear-wheel drive, and a coupe body. However, there’s a new Nissan Z car on the way, and it’s set to be none of these things.
Citing an insider source, Autocar reports that sadly, the next Z car will be a crossover. The 370Z will disappear in 2017, and will be replaced by a jacked up car that’s expected to be offered with a range of 1.6-litre, four-cylinder engines. And we’ll be seeing this car fairly soon, in the form of a concept at next month’s Frankfurt Motor Show.
Really, we shouldn’t be surprised. Crossovers of all shapes and sizes are selling in ludicrous numbers all over the world, particularly in the United Sates and the Far East. But still, to kill off the rear-drive, coupe Z for a baby SUV seems like a damn shame, and it’s a move that’ll irk very many petrolheads.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to sit in the corner and sulk.
