Just as we were getting used to how utterly amazing the LaFerrari is, news that an even more extreme, track-only 'XX' version has landed. It's not entirely unexpected news; the Enzo after all spawned the FXX, followed by the 599XX. What's a little less expected is the powerplant, with reports coming through that suggest Ferrari has been working on an F1-derived V6 powerplant for the car.

Suddenly, that video we saw last year of a LaFerrari test mule (below) makes a lot of sense. Originally, we, and most of the world, thought this was Ferrari cheekily trialling its new F1 engine ahead of pre-season testing. However, Top Gear has been informed by Ferrari top brass that this was in fact a test for a possible V6 powerplant for the XX.

The new car is expected to appear next January or February. The use of a turbo V6 remains unconfirmed but one thing's for sure: with the 'regular' LaFerrari churning out a combined 950bhp from its hybrid powertrain, this hardcore XX version is going to be utterly bonkers.
