Bugatti Shows Hennessey The Finger And Bags The Convertible World Speed Record
Bugatti is still pissed with Hennessey for stealing its world speed record. For that reason, we're now bringing you news of another world speed record: and that record is 254mph in a convertible!
Bugatti secured the accolade on Saturday 6th April at Ehra Lessien, Germany, under the watchful eye of TÜV Rheinland, a German certification organisation similar to the Guinness World Record company (except with less sense of humour).
The ‘World Record Edition’ car was finished in the same colours as the SuperSport supercar that managed more than 270mph, although the orange on the convertible version is much more apparent. And vulgar. Still, it's nice to actually see some photos of the thing, as Bugatti's teaser hardly gave much away.
Piloted by Chinese racing driver Anthony Liu, a certificate of the record was handed over to Liu by Bugatti’s boss Dr. Wolfgang Schreiber after the record run of 408.84kph (254.04mph) before Liu signed the door sill of the WRC.
It’s probable that another four WRC cars will be built (the same number as for the Veyron WRC), but only the car used for the record will hold Liu’s signature.
If you want one of the 8.0-litre W16, 1200bhp WRC Bugs, it’s likely to set you back around £1.7 million. Or you could save yourself around £1.5m, and roof chop a 1700bhp GT-R that'll destroy any Veyron on the straight.
