Bugatti's 'Confirmed' Veyron Successor Will Be A 286mph, 1500bhp Hybrid
1183bhp. 0-62mph in 2.5 seconds. Top speed of 268mph. Just where the hell do you go from there? That’s the challenge Bugatti is facing right now in replacing the Veyron, a car which bowed out a few months ago. The answer? Even more power, and even more speed.
In an interview with German newspaper Bild, Volkswagen AG chairman Martin Winterkorn confirmed that a new Veyron is indeed on the way, and there’ll be more than one version. “Next to the petrol model there will also be a stronger hybrid variant for the first time,” he said. And the hybrid model will be pretty bloody rapid.
It’s expected to run an updated version of the first car’s 8.0-litre W16, which - along with the hybrid system - will apparently give the car 1500PS (1479bhp). Top speed? Around 286mph is anticipated.
Quite where you’ll be able to clock that speed other than VW’s Ehra-Lessien test track - or the runway from Fast 6 - we’re not sure, but nevertheless, that’s pretty incredible.
The car is expected to arrive in 2016.
