There isn’t a lot that can slow the ridiculous price surge among modern limited-edition Ferraris. If it was a limited-run special and had any kind of special standing in Prancing Horse history, the prices are through the roof right now.

Oddly, that’s happening against a backdrop of certain legendary Ferraris’ prices actually dropping. Over the last few years F40 prices seem to have fallen away, for example. You’re still not going to get one for chump change, but the focus really does seem to have shifted to newer, less cliche metal.

Take, for example, the F12tdf. Released just a few years ago as a limited run of 799 cars, this 769bhp monster embodied every ounce of speed and speed-related technology that Ferrari could throw at a front-engined, rear-wheel drive supercar. Its front-mid-mounted 6.3-litre V12 is a work of art, much like the noises it makes.

As we documented in this list of bonkers Ferrari resale values, an 84-mile tdf had tripled in value in the blink of an eye. Another has surfaced for sale with Mecum Auctions in the US, and who knows what this one will go for.

Finished in what Mecum describes as ‘Ferrari Rosso F1 2007’, which could be a bespoke derivative of red as per the original customer order (or it could be, err, wrong), this stunning machine has covered 1157 miles from new. As if it wasn’t special enough, the carbonfibre bulkhead between the seats and the luggage area bears Ferrari F1 driver Sebastian Vettel’s signature.

There’s also the small matter of over $92,000 in optional extras, including the $10,124 Ferrari Telemetry system. If you want a near-F1-spec analysis of your laps, this is where you get it. The Scuderia shields on the wings are another four-figure option on their own.

Beneath the red paint is a carbonfibre-heavy interior slathered in Alcantara. There’s red detailing around the circular air vents and Italian tri-colour trim inserts on the glove box lid and seats. There are carbon ceramic brake discs and red-painted calipers to grip them. It looks superb.

Naturally this is no mere steel spring suspension setup. You get electromagnetic dampers to play with, as well as an adjustable traction control and stability control pairing. Traction is boosted by an electronically-controlled limited-slip differential. Essentially, the tyres are in for a tough day at the office, if you dared to drive it in anger, anyway.

The car is part of Mecum’s Indy 2018 sale, which runs across 15-19 May at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, in Indianapolis. Brace for big numbers.
