The C8 Corvette Has Been Filmed Revving, And Yes, It Sounds Great
As well as designing it with a mid-engined layout for the first time, Chevrolet has also given the latest Corvette Stingray a whole new heart. Best thought of as an evolution of the 6.2-litre LT1 Small Block V8, the new ‘LT2’ gains a dry-sum lubrication system, as well as an increase in power and torque - it develops 488bhp and 470lb ft of twist.
It still uses an old-school pushrod arrangement for the valvetrain, and it - praise be - does without turbochargers. It should come as no surprise, then, that it sounds rather nice.
A C8 was filmed revving at Road America during the IMSA event, giving us our first chance to see how it fares in the noise stakes. We’d love to hear it until load, but even at a standstill, the LT2 can make a tremendous racket.
The new V8 sends its power to the 305/30/20 tyres at the rear via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox (another ‘Vette first) built by Tremec. Nail your foot on the throttle hard enough, and 60mph will arrive from rest in under three seconds.
Sounds expensive, but amazingly, the C8 Stingray will start at under $60,000. Here’s hoping the price won’t increase too much by the time it arrives in the UK in right-hand drive form.

I wanted to point that out too 😅
Sounds awesome!! Plenty happy with my procharged 2016 Stingray but once the C8 Grandsport comes out, I know I’ll be getting one myself. Can’t wait to see it
Don’t know where the most of internet go with it looking like a ferrari…
To me it definitely looks like a Corvette, those tail lights, vents, plus the whole front end definitely makes me think of the previous ZR1
the front vaguely reminds me of an f430
