Cadillac's Streaming Video Tech Drags The Humble Rear-View Mirror Into The 21st Century
Other than auto dimming functions, rear-view mirrors are still relatively simple affairs, but Cadillac has something a little more interesting up its sleeve
For all the fancy tech cars are stuffed with these days, the rear-view mirror is still a rather simple thing. However, the 2016 Cadillac CTS will come with something a little more 21st century. Like a similar system from Nissan, Cadillac will will replace the humble mirror with a 1280x240 pixel video streaming unit, which takes a feed from a rear-mounted camera.
The whole system will improve the field of vision by 300 per cent, and there’s a ‘hydrophobic’ coating on the camera to help it remain clear whatever the weather. For those who find technology a bit scary, it’s possible to switch the unit back to being a regular mirror by flicking a switch at the bottom.
