So today I am going to talk about why keyless cars are completely unnecessary. Keyless ignition systems might seem useful and innovative, but they’re not. They can really come back around and bite you in they butt if they breakdown or break.

What’s wrong with a key? When did a key go out of style, or obsolete? Why do we need a push to start button and a key fob to start our cars?

This might seem like a good idea to you at first but if the ignition system breaks down, your screwed. According to Scotty Kilmer’s video on “Why Keyless Cars Are Stupid” (btw Scotty Kilmer has been a mechanic for like 50 years so I think he knows what he’s talking about.) he had a customer come in with his Infiniti in with a broken keyless ignition system and it ended up costing $1500 dollars to fix it. That’s a lot of car parts you can buy with that money! But when the key wore out on Mr. Kilmer’s Celica, he replaced it for 2 bucks at his local hardware store. He also had a customer with a Toyota who needed another keyless remote made for the car, and it ended up costing him $550 dollars at the dealership.

But you might argue that cars with keyless cars are harder to steal. Well, some cars have immobilizer keys, according to Wikipedia, an immobilizer key prevents the car from being hotwired. It prevents the engine from running unless the correct key is in the car. So cars without keyless ignition systems aren’t very easy to steal either.

The last reason pretty much proves that keyless ignition systems are unnecessary. When the battery dies in a car with a keyless ignition system you won’t be able to get in your car, so what do they hide in the keyless fob? AN ACTUALLY KEY! So what’s the point? My car has a key put it would still cost like $500 to repair just the key, idk about the ignition cylinder. Scotty Kilmer is still stuck in the old days, he made a video about why Mercedes sucks but literally half his points were invalid

100% agree here. Push-button start is nothing more than a gimmick to make a car seem more luxurious or upmarket. I feel the same about many tech features on modern cars

It only really makes sense on a Mercedes or similar luxury car, where the whole point is being loaded with tech. They also do it right, to where you never have to touch the key.
On anything less stupidly luxobarge, it’s pointless

If you lived with one you’d want to never go back. It’s just easier. Trust me!

I’m personally in love with keyless and start stop buttons but they do seem quite pointless

I hate keyless. I had to drive a rental car to a formal function, and it kept sliding out of my pocket while driving, so I put it in the cup holder. I could have easily forgotten it or lost it and we would have been stranded in the city 100 miles away. If the car remained unlocked with the key in the cupholder, someone could easily steal the car.
And there was also the ritual that was something like turn on E-brake, hold the footbrake, engage the flux capacitor, pray to Ginesh, then press the button, then do everything in reverse.

I love keyless ignition and entry. Its really convenient not having the fumble around my pockets for my key. Not to mention it isn’t the key that starts your car, its the transducer in the remote that allows your car to start. Modern keyed cars usually have identical keys. My mom’s Honda crv and my dad’s accord have the same key. This is why manufacturers went keyless, the key is vestigial now. Both a key and keyless system would cost the same to repair now because what you pay for in modern keys is the coding in the key chip, not for the actual hardware.
