Car Throttle's Official Lions Dream Team In Cars

With the nation's most manly sport back in full swing, we decided to make our very own car rugby dream team

Full team

The British and Irish Lions play their first game tomorrow - a warm-up against the Barbarians in Hong Kong - before charging off on their tour of Australia. While the official team is yet to be announced, we thought we'd get in there first by revealing our official rugby dream team in cars. Here are our choices:

Props - Hummer H2 & Defender

Props

The game can be won or lost at the scrum, which is why we've chosen these two unflappable monsters to resist the full force of the opposition.

Hooker - Volkswagen Scirocco R

Hooker

The Hooker needs to be relatively short and very stocky, so what better candidate than the rapid Volkswagen Scirocco R.

Locks - Volvo V70 & Jeep GC

Second Rows

We wanted two long vehicles to steal the ball at the lineout while also providing extra power at the scrum. The Volvo V70 should be great in the air while the Jeep Grand Cherokee provides the traction and thrust for a solid defence.

Flankers - Nissan GT-R & Mitsu Evo

Flankers

The flankers need to be quick off the mark and the first players to every breakdown to steal the ball from the opposition. The Nissan GT-R and Mitsubishi Evo possess lightning-fast acceleration and the endurance to go the full 80 minutes.

Number Eight - G63 AMG 6x6

Number 8

A leader in the forwards and a dominant presence throughout the game, we selected the mighty Mercedes G63 AMG 6x6. It may not be able to sidestep like Jason Robinson but it will certainly demolish the line at full pelt.

Scrum-half - Ford Fiesta ST

Scrum Half

Perhaps the smallest player on the pitch, the scrum-half needs to spot the gaps in defence and also provide the quick ball for the back line. The super-nimble Ford Fiesta ST fits this role perfectly with its slender figure, sharp handling and quick reflexes.

Fly-half - Toyota GT86

Fly-Half

Was there ever going to be any other choice for this role? The Toyota GT86 has an enormous and accurate kick to it and commands the respect of every player on the team. All eyes will be on him.

Wings - Jag XKR-S & Veyron

Wings

They might not be the best defenders in the world (Chris Ashton, ahem) but they most certainly set the pitch alight. With the Veyron’s out-and-out pace on the right and the XKR-S' booming presence on the left, this pair will hammer the opposition into submission.

Centres - Range Rover Sport & BMW M3

Centres

Breaking through the Aussie back line will be tough, but when the GT86 slings the ball to the blisteringly fast, 4x4 Range Rover Sport, there will be no stopping it. If he fancies taking a break he can pass it to the wholly capable BMW M3. We’ve opted for the Range Rover Sport Kahn Design, so it can cruise over the line in style.

Fullback - Lotus Exige S

Full-Back

Last but not least, the fullback. We needed something that would be good under the high-ball and something with an incredible accurate and fast side-step. With its telepathic handling and monumental speed, the Lotus Exige S fits the bill perfectly.

That’s our dream team, then. Tell us yours below in the comments.
