The Carrera GT Paul Walker Lost His Life In Was A Tough Animal To Tame As Proven By Stig's Scrappy Lap
Yesterday, we were very sad to report of Fast and Furious star Paul Walker's tragic death. Details are still a little sketchy, but what we do know is that he was the passenger in a Porsche Carrera GT, which was being driven by friend and racing driver Roger Rodas.
Sources Confirm Fast & Furious 7 Will Be ‘Delayed Not Cancelled’
The Carrera GT has a reputation of being a difficult beast to handle, as this Top Gear review demonstrates. Clarkson describes it as "the most exciting, the best looking, the most expensive and the fastest road-going Porsche ever", however it is a focused race car for the road. Combine its lightweight construction, race-derived V10 and 'brutal' clutch, and you have a car that makes you feel like you're "on a knife's edge".
Rodas, who also sadly lost his life in the incident, was no amateur behind the wheel. The 38-year-old was an experienced racer, but even in The Stig's hands the Carrera proved difficult to tame. After many attempts to complete a lap without spinning, Stig put in a time of 1:19.8 - a lap record at the time.
The Porsche Carrera GT proves, tragically, that it is one of the most formidable road-going racers in the world.
