Caterham's New AeroSeven Could Be The Ultimate Race Car For The Road
Caterham has released pics and details of its new AeroSeven Concept which, incredibly, will be the first ever Caterham to come with traction control.
Revealed in Singapore at the famous grand prix night circuit today, the concept points to Caterham's future design language - it's a work in progress - for its forthcoming road cars; a collaboration with Renault will see new sports cars emerge from the brand in 2016.
The AeroSeven will reach production before the 2016 model, however, hitting showrooms one year from now. Powered by a naturally aspirated 237bhp, 2.0-litre four-pot Ford Duratec engine, the lightweight, carbonfibre-bodied AeroSeven will hit 62mph from standing in 'under four seconds,' thanks to the addition of launch control. Drive is channeled to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox.
Thanks to Caterham F1 Team's involvement with the build, the AeroSeven features F1-style pushrod front suspension plus new dampers, springs and anti-roll bars. 'Caterham Technology and Innovation's' involvement means that the AeroSeven also gets a steering wheel-mounted ECU adjuster, as well as ‘Road’ mode, ‘Flash-to-Pass’ and ‘Pit Lane Speed Limiter’ functions. The 'active graphical display unit' you'll see in the image below tells the driver engine speed, vehicle speed, traction and brake settings and fuel and oil levels.
The AeroSeven is estimated to weigh around 600kg, which would make it just 25kg heavier than the Caterham CSR model with which the concept shares its platform.
