Check Out This Amazing Twin-Charged 2JZ-Swapped Rolls-Royce Phantom

You don't see this sort of thing every day! A Japanese Phantom owner has done something rather drastic after the original engine died, involving a supercharged and turbocharged 2JZ six-pot
Check Out This Amazing Twin-Charged 2JZ-Swapped Rolls-Royce Phantom

This has to be one of the more outrageous engine swaps we’ve seen recently. After all, it’s not often that an owner of one of the world’s most luxurious cars decides to replace its legendary 6.75-litre V12 with a twin-charged 3.0-litre 2JZ.

After the original engine apparently ‘lost coolant and melted’ late last year, its Japanese owner decided against a like-for-like replacement. Instead, he or she asked J&K Products to try something a little… different.

The company sourced a 2JZ unit and rebuilt it with HKS forged internals, then added a GReddy T78 turbo and a HKS supercharger. We can’t imagine that getting all this to work together seamlessly was an easy task, but it’s done – and it makes close to 900bhp! That’s getting on for double what the original V12 had, but the character of the car must be, well, contrastive.

Naturally the gearbox has been upgraded, but the gear selector has had to be moved from the steering column to the centre console. Much worse, though, are the makeshift dials installed smack-bang in front of the originals. Perhaps the engineers had had enough after the amount of work demanded by the engine…

“the original engine apparently ‘lost coolant and melted’”
That’s the one situation where I don’t care what engine gets transplanted as you’re not removing a perfectly serviceable engine like 99.999% of people immediately claim, even when there’s proof right in front of their eyes

This is why the petrolhead world is amazing, sometimes in good and bad ways. I’d say this is quite the unusual build!

I wouldn’t call that V12 legendary. It’s made by and for people who laugh about American engines having much displacements with little power, but needs 6.75 liters, four cams, Valvetronic and all that to be “quiet and subtle”. A four-cylinder would be enough to drive from the downtown apartment to the bank you work at (or own). It seems so double-standard, doesn’t it?
