The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Has No Trouble Making Supercars Look Silly On Track
In the hands of Randy Pobst during this Motor Trend test, the ZL1 clocked a stupidly quick time at Willow Springs
From Chevrolet Corvettes to Dodge Vipers, there are all kinds of amazing American performance cars we’ve been denied in our British Isles over the years. At the top of the tree of forbidden fruit for me right now is the Camaro ZL1 - I’m desperate to drive one even though my geographical ‘disadvantage’ makes getting behind the wheel rather difficult.
This new video from Motor Trend - which sees resident pro driver Randy Pobst put in a time that puts a few supercars to shame - does not help one bit. Thanks guys…

Then it is a V8 supercar
I watched this episode. I loved it. I cannot wait to see what Chevrolet has in store for us with the Z/28. That badge must stay with the Camaro for it is the only consistent one throughout the generations. The ZL1 was only beought back because its a name that not everyone knew. The ZL1 was first produced in 1969 and Chevy only made 69 of them. Thats why theyre so little known back then. Everyone I knew was like “Chevy made a new model Camaro!” and I was like, “nope, it was made in ‘69 etc etc.” The 1969 model had the 427 aluminum motor from the corvette. It did the 1/4 mile in 12 and some odd seconds. 12 seconds!!! Last time I saw a fully original ZL1 on Barrett-Jackson ir went for half a million (after everything else) but before everything someone won it at $400,000+.
this is the 3rd ZL1. The 5th gen had a zl1
Ford, we need a good GT500 now!
NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT
Wow.
I got to test drive a ZL-1 a few days ago, super fun, BUT, The comfort suffers enough that it almost isn’t worth it. (Key word being almost) Tons of power, tons of speed, not enough fun. To put it in James May terms: I didn’t feel the fizz
