This Chinese Range Rover Evoque Copycat Crashed Embarrassingly Into The Real Thing

A Chinese Landwind X7, the infamous Range Rove Evoque copycat sold only in the Far East, has crashed into the genuine British article in a piece of news you couldn’t even make up. They’re even more or less the same damn colour…

The X7, which Landwind was allowed to carry on selling after the Chinese legal system declared Land Rover’s design copyrights ‘invalid’ (roll eyes here), allegedly smashed into the Evoque in the Chinese city of Chongqing. No one was hurt and the damage to each car was apparently minor, but police pointed the finger of blame at the X7 owner. As would we, frankly, but for reasons unconnected to the crash.

The heinous Chinese copy costs less than a quarter of the real deal’s asking price. JLR did try to halt its sales, but Chinese law pretty much always sides with Chinese business where there’s money to be made. Apparently JLR is still chasing lawsuits over the wannabe Landwind, but it’s not likely to get anywhere.

Don’t you mean “Internet Explorer”?
Windows Explorer is the file manager for Windows

True, this is like if a robot of Jeremy Clarkson beat the real Jeremy Clarkson in a race on the same car with the same complex manual transmission, shift ratios and important times. Or to make it easier, it’s like if LeBron James got dunked on by a Chinese man of the same height and haircut. Or at least LeBron gets dunked on by a robot/statue LeBron!

Well it’s not the first time this has happened, this Zotye SR9 ‘Macan Clone’ was unfortunate enough to collide with a real Porsche.

I’m in China rn actually and I’ve talked with some Chinese people and they said non Chinese cars have a high tax (basically take the regular US price and multiply it by 3). So the Land Rover Evoque costs at least $130k USD. But the Land Wind (the Chinese copy) costs at least 100k yuan (about $15k or more). The Chinese really like brand names so I’d say it’s fair for the “poorer” people who really want a brand name car but can’t afford one can to buy fakes, let them enjoy their life lol.
