Classifieds' Car Of The Day: BMW E36 M3 Touring

BMW M3 Touring fever has hit us hard at CT. To alleviate the symptoms, here's something even the BMW haters will want in their garage

You may have noticed this week that I've been banging on about M3 Tourings like a broken record. My motivations were sparked by this F31 M3 rendering, which duly prompted me to open a poll to ask if you think BMW needs to 'take a brave pill' and make a production version; I'm happy to see that most of you are currently in favour of the proposal.

It'll come as no surprise, then, that when I saw this E36 M3 Touring conversion, I lost my mind a little bit and quickly concluded that you needed to see this thing too.

Reported by its current owner to be 'one of only six conversions in the country,' this 1995 former 328i Touring is powered by a 3.0-litre S50B30 straight-six lump from a 1994 donor car. The S50 produces 282bhp and 236lb/ft which, when under the bonnet of the coupe, would fire the M3 to 60mph from standing in 5.4sec and on to a limited top speed of 155mph.

Priced at £5800, the M3 Touring sits on 'Sunflower' alloys (arguably the best rims BMW has ever produced) and features Black Nappa Vader seats (you might remember seeing these in a recent poll), Z3M short-shifter, a new clutch and coilover suspension.

The car's by no means 'factory fresh' - the headlining's sagging and the oil temp gauge is on strike - but I can't think of a more unique or more exciting car I'd rather spend this sort of cash on.
