Classifieds' Car Of The Day: Mitsubishi's Feisty FTO V6

Sticking with yesterday's Japanese performance bargain, we're looking at the Mitsubishi FTO. This handsome coupe proved a very popular import choice in the 90s, leading Mitsubishi to sell it officially in the UK towards the end of the model's life.

The GPX version - which is the one you want - has a silky-smooth 2.0-litre V6, good for 197bhp. 0-60mph takes 7.3 seconds, and it'll top out at 130mph. It's front wheel drive, which is a turn-off for some people, but the FTO's great chassis and steering make up for that.

As it was only sold in the UK late in its life, most FTOs you'll come across will be imports. This means the history of the car might be difficult to check, but so long as you proceed with caution that shouldn't be an issue. Manual cars are frustratingly rare, so if you see a tidy stick-shift model, snap it up.

This 1995 model we've found falls into the import category, but looks tidy. The red bits of trim in the cabin aren't the nicest, but it's had a new cambelt and waterpump fitted not so long ago. At only £875, it's a proper bargain.
