Classifieds' Car Of The Day: Tidy Honda S2000
As far as proper drivers' cars go for around £5k, it's difficult to do better than the Honda S2000. It has all the right ingredients: roadster body, rear-wheel drive, and a punchy engine.
And it's not just any engine. Under the bonnet is Honda's F20C unit, which - after you've got the inevitable 'VTEC kicked in, yo' jokes out of your system - is a belter. The 2.0-litre version's peak power of 240bhp arrives at 8300rpm, which means you really need to rev it to extract all the performance, but who cares when it sounds so good? 0-60mph is dealt with in six seconds dead, and the top speed is 150mph.
Spirited driving takes a little more attention than other sports cars; earlier examples had no traction control to save you, and were known to be relatively tail-happy - particularly in the wet. It's worth giving it that attention though, as the S2000 is an incredibly rewarding car to drive.
Tempted? This 2002 model is up for £5750, and could well be worth a look. It's done just 60,000 miles and has a full service history.
