Classifieds' Car Of The Day: VR6-Powered VW Sharan Syncro
This is a Volkswagen Sharan MPV. It's also - rather controversially in the office - today's car of the day. So why, you ask, is a seven-seat MPV car of the day? That's simple: it's brimmed with luxury features (including heated leather, cruise-control, air-con and arm rests) and isn't powered by a wheezy oil-burner.
Under the bonnet lies a 2.8-litre VR6 petrol motor with 174bhp. Better still, its power is transferred to each wheel (that's why it's called a Syncro), which makes this thing one of the best and most practical 4x4 luxo barges you can buy for well under £1000. And just in time for winter.
The advert states that the Sharan Syncro here is a great runner with good tyres and longish MOT and Tax, so if you can swallow its sluggish slush 'box and slight drinking habit (you'll get around 22mpg on average), £900ono bags you this go-anywhere Goliath.
It's also got roof rails and a tow bar, meaning you've got an almost infinite amount of carrying capacity with which to haul Christmas trees, mates, reindeer or whatever else you guys get up to on the weekends. I imagine a few crates of beer would fit in there nicely too, to make winding down at your destination that bit sweeter. Don't act like you're not even a little bit tempted.
