Here’s A Proper Look At Euro Truck Simulator 2’s New Coach Driving Mode

A couple of weeks ago, SCS Software, developer of the hugely popular cargo-hauling sim Euro Truck Simulator 2, teased the addition of coaches to the title. Now, the company’s given us a whole lot more info on what to expect from what it’s calling ‘Project Coaches’.
As we’d expected, the update will see you swap hauling stuff for transporting passengers, with the developers utilising the many bus stops and terminals that already populate the game’s condensed but still expansive map of Europe as scenery. Some of them are being reworked from the ground up, too.

Like the game’s trucks, the coaches will be fully licensed, with vehicles from Scania, Volvo and MAN shown off as part of the announcement. These probably weren’t difficult licences to acquire, given those manufacturers’ trucks already feature in ETS2. We’ll admit we know the net sum of jack when it comes to vehicles like this, but we’re strangely intrigued by the absolute unit that is that double-decker, six-wheeled Volvo.
Lorrying die-hards needn’t fear, though, because like the car-based Project Road Trip update for sibling title American Truck Simulator, Project Coaches is being worked on by a separate, dedicated group at SCS. The core team is still focusing on trucking content and map expansions, with the game’s world soon to be augmented by one of the most beautiful countries of all, Iceland.

As for when you’ll be able to get your coach driver on in ETS2, SCS says the update is still in early development, much like ATS’ Project Road Trip. Both updates are set to bring a new dimension to the titles’ oddly relaxing, slow-paced take on the driving game genre – something probably at odds with the real-life experience of taking a long-haul coach trip across Europe.
In the meantime, you’ve got plenty of time to get your hands on a tie and a crisply-ironed short-sleeved white shirt.
