Confirmed: The Next Mercedes-AMG C63 Will Be A Hybrid
The next Mercedes-AMG C63 will definitely be a downsized hybrid, the boss of AMG has confirmed.
The German muscle-merchant is attempting to perfect an ‘always-on’ hybrid technology that makes the electric motor’s massive extra thrust available all the time, on demand. It’s likely to feature alongside a twin-turbo V6, which will be easier to package in the C than the latest straight-six.
We imagine the idea like a normal ‘full hybrid’ setup but with a much bigger motor and a whole heap more energy density flowing into and out of a more advanced battery. High-spec energy recovery systems derived from F1 could be possible.
In an interview with CarAdvice, AMG overlord Tobias Moers said that the next C63 will change significantly. He said:
“If you apply proper intelligent hybridisation or electrification to a car which is capable of having an always-on strategy regarding the battery and the whole system, then it’s amazing what you can get out of them.
“Which means for sure the next-generation Mercedes-AMG C63 will be a hybrid – that’s now a given.”
What we don’t know is whether the new drivetrain is scheduled for the facelifted version of the car that was only just announced, so in three to four years, or whether its arrival will wait until the next all-new version is due, in 2025 or so. We suspect the latter.
In a way it’s a new generation of exciting technology, but in another way it’s a sad decline from the glory days of the 6.2-litre naturally-aspirated V8. If the new tech excites us as much as the old did, it’ll be a miracle.

I mean what did you expect? Better performance, better fuel efficiency, lower emissions.
I have to agree
Still going to miss that v8 though.
They are getting mad at a boost in overall performance. Smh
Not to mention it’s in line with advancing technologies right now. It would only make sense to advance with everyone else, as much as I don’t want to say.
It was coming but still I’m sad
:/
I’m not against this, but I think it strays a little too far from it’s extra-angry-V8 roots.
I hoped they would never Mer-say this…
Really though no Mercy-dis
I just wanted to say hats off to Mercedes for sticking with V8s as long as they could
Laugh in hellcat
REEEEEE
If only the governments around the world would just acknowledge the insignificant sales of sports cars and just let car makers put a powerful engine and go mad with it. :/
This …
p r e a c h 🙏
Preach it queen!!!
Only daily’s should be electric cars, the sports cars should be left alone.
How about govrnment put emissions regulations only on econoboxes
They shouldn‘t call it 63 then
