'Cruise' Looks Like A More Intelligent Fast And Furious
Fast and Furious stopped being about street racing many years and countless explosions ago. These days the franchise is all about family, submarine chases and Dwayne Johnson’s impossibly large muscles, with the basic premise of the original nowhere to be seen.
That’s what makes the prospect of ‘Cruise’ quite interesting. Showcased in this new trailer, it’s like the original Fast and Furious mixed with Drive, and it’s set in the 1980s, which means there are cool cars to enjoy including a Buick Grand National and a second-gen Chevrolet Camaro.
It follows the exploits of Gio (Spencer Boldman), a young Italian American from Queens, New York. He falls for Long Island girl Jessica (Emily Ratajkowski), but naturally, things go awry when Gio gets involved with some shady looking characters, giving a bit of jeopardy by act 2 or 3.
So far, so predictable, but there’s a good reason to be optimistic about this film, even though movies revolving around cars are - more often than not - a bit poo. It’s written and directed by Robert D. Siegel, the man behind 2008’s multiple award-winning flick The Wrestler.
There’s no release date just yet, but expect it to be in theatres towards the end of the year.

I’m kind of expecting Tom Cruise to be lurking somewhere in this film
“A more intelligent Fast and Furious”
Wasn’t Baby Driver already that? It definitely is better than this.
Some douchebag Fonz wannabe with a fake accent. That describes the car community as much as transformers describes being a mechanic. This looks like more of a chick flick for girls with daddy issues than it does a movie about cars. I guarantee cars will be only 5% of this movie.
Why aren’t there any TURBO badges?
