According to one user in a Reddit thread, the reason for the truck’s massive fail is as follows:
Single shear on left. Imagine the shocks as the side with the up arrow and the frame as the other. That’s a lot of stress going through just one part of the bolt. Basically, it acted like a big pair of scissors and sliced the bolt clean through.
Spacer. Instead of the springs resting against the frame, he added what amounts to really thick washers to lift the frame up a bit higher than the top of the spring.
TLDR: The jump turned his suspension into a set of really big bolt cutters.
