Decorate Your BMW 5-Series Touring With These New M Performance Parts

Want a new BMW 5-series Touring with some extra visual aggression, but simply can’t wait for the longroof variant of the upcoming M5? Luckily for you, BMW’s come up with a stopgap solution courtesy of the latest additions to its M Performance Parts range, which spruce up the 5-series and i5 Tourings with plenty of edgy aero bits.

Some of the new bits are made from carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP), while others are constructed from aramid, a similar kind of rigid synthetic fibre – the latter’s been used for the aerial cover, as it apparently has better electromagnetic properties than CFRP. If that’s not a fun fact, we don’t know what is.

Other exterior bits include a new front splitter, side skirts and rear diffuser, a roof spoiler, and carbon mirror caps. A range of new lightweight alloy wheels, ranging from 19- to 21-inch in size, might actually make a discernible difference to handling by knocking a bit off the car’s unsprung weight, and the new M Performance brake system provides a bit of extra stopping power. Then there are the optional matte black stripes running down the sides, which as we all know, add 10bhp each.

Things are a little less dramatic on the inside, with M Performance accessories including floor mats, door sill kick plates and new stainless steel pedal covers. Also, you can get a new leather and Alcantara case for your key fob. Snazzy.

Beemer’s M Performance parts, like their cars themselves, can be a little hit-and-miss visually – see the bizarre carbon growths and quad exhausts available for the M2 for evidence. The ones available for the 5 Touring, though, befit the car’s relatively restrained design (by BMW standards), and give it a decent M5-lite appearance without going OTT. Hopefully, they should whet everyone’s appetite for the long-awaited return of the M5 Touring.
