If it doesn’t snow, couldn’t you just use all seasons?

A lot of “all-season” tyres perform rather poorly in all seasons.

I use performance summer tyres all year round. They perform better in the wet than the all-seasons I had before

Yeah, most of all-seasons are really poor in wet, especially in bigger cities where the road is greasy.

I’d say it depends a lot on the winter tire.
I used to run Dunlop sport maxx on my RS Megane and in cold (but still not freezing) conditions - say 3 - 5 C - the ABS kicked in much sooner than it does on new Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4s (same 225/40 R18) - especially on greasy roads.
Granted, not the most thorough test, but the type of winter tire counts a lot - some winter tires are optimized for snow and ice while others are optimized for dry/wet asphalt. Would love to see a comparison between Pilot Alpin and X-Ice.

The Swiss TCS realize a full comparation between new winter tires every two years. Really useful when you don’t know which set to get
