A Dodge Challenger SRT8 Will Let You Live Out Your 'Murican Muscle Car Dreams
If there’s one muscle car we’re excited about more than any other at the moment, it’s the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. With 697bhp it’s the most powerful production muscle car ever, and with a few styling tweaks over the standard model, it looks the business. Even the SRT CEO couldn’t resist taking one out for a cheeky burnout.
However, the Hellcat is a little way off arriving in showrooms, and it won’t be officially coming to the UK at all, so what if you live in Britain and fancy a slice of American muscle right now? We give you this used 2012 Challenger SRT8.
It’s packing a 469bhp, 470lb ft 6.4-litre HEMI V8 under the bonnet, which will sound incredible through the Magnaflow exhaust that’s fitted. It’ll do 0-62mph in under five seconds, and top out at 170mph. Sure, it won’t be the last word in driving dynamics - not helped by the fact it weighs damn-near two tonnes - but we think the Challenger is a seriously cool way to get yourself around. And if Walter White thinks it’s good enough for his son, it’s good enough for us too.
The Challenger is yet to be sold officially in the UK; this is an imported car. The main issue with this is that the steering wheel is on the left, the ‘wrong’ side for UK roads. Also, as the cost of importing a new car from the US is quite substantial - coupled with the low number of Challengers in the UK - used prices tend to be steep. In the US, $40,000 (£23,000) is enough to get you a very nice 2012 Challenger SRT8. Our imported one, on the other hand, is up for a cool £33,995. But does any of that make us want the SRT8 any less? Hell no.
