Does It Bother You That The Porsche Boxster No Longer Has A Flat-Six?

The relentless onward charge of downsizing has hit Porsche once again, with the Boxster losing its sweet N/A flat-six for a turbo flat-four. But does that bother you?
Does It Bother You That The Porsche Boxster No Longer Has A Flat-Six?

We’ve been expecting it for a while, but it’s finally happened: the Porsche Boxster range has moved to turbocharged four-cylinder power. Sure, the engines are more powerful and have punchier torque outputs - with the 2.0-litre version putting out 25bhp and 66lb ft more than the old 2.7-litre six - plus there’s the economy benefits to think about. But losing that characteristic Porsche flat-six howl does seem like a shame.

It’ll only bother people if they take a drop in power or it stays the same. People want “the next one” to be better than “the last one”. That’s why the 70s and 80s in America were so awful. Almost every car was a setback from the previous. The only one off the top of my head is the jump from c3 to c4. C3 was amazing in 1970 but lost all power in its later years then the c4 came and was an upgrade in most every way except for the looks which is more of an opinion based argument.

SACRILEGE! It really is sad for the Boxster/Cayman to lose the Flat 6.

45% say it’s sacrilege.
At least 45% have never heard of the original Porsche 718, which was a mid-engined two-seater with a turbo boxer-four.
