Does It Bother You That The Porsche Boxster No Longer Has A Flat-Six?

The relentless onward charge of downsizing has hit Porsche once again, with the Boxster losing its sweet N/A flat-six for a turbo flat-four. But does that bother you?
Does It Bother You That The Porsche Boxster No Longer Has A Flat-Six?

We’ve been expecting it for a while, but it’s finally happened: the Porsche Boxster range has moved to turbocharged four-cylinder power. Sure, the engines are more powerful and have punchier torque outputs - with the 2.0-litre version putting out 25bhp and 66lb ft more than the old 2.7-litre six - plus there’s the economy benefits to think about. But losing that characteristic Porsche flat-six howl does seem like a shame.

Sound doesn’t matter much to me…. the boxster always had been known for superior handling.. but not for speed etc. So as long as it delivers the efficiency I’m good

My honnest opinion is that it goes both ways for me, its nice for porsche to bring new things like this inovation to their linup but they should also give the option to keep it like they used to

Never had a Porsche with a flat six and will never have a Porsche with a four banger

You can go into the car configurator and hear the engine.

Lighter, Turbos, cheaper, fuel efficient, quicker, faster. I know this is unpopular but I don’t care where the power comes from. More powerful and more efficient is a win win.

That flat six was a far more exotic engine and since we are talking about a convertible, sound is pretty much everything. So yeah, it’s a bit disapointing even if it’s a bit faster with the new engine.

It’s still a boxer! You say about the sound thing as if you were going to buy one and this alone convinced you not to. Get over it, a Clio sounds liek a GT-R or a Ferrari out of it’s interior speakers. And that is OEM. The god of car sounds died and is not coming back.

It bothers me… sports cars should have great engines and I’m not saying that 4 pots aren’t great but the boxster and cayman were born with 6 cylinders, they should keep the recipe, I guess I’m old fashioned and I am trying to cling on to the big N/A engines but I really don’t want change but it is happening and there isn’t a damn thing any of us can do about it :-/
