The Drive To Survive Season 6 Trailer Has Dropped

The new F1 season is almost underway, and that means we’re also about to be treated to the sixth series of Netflix’s fly-on-the-wall documentary, Formula 1: Drive To Survive. The first episode debuts tomorrow, 23 February, and ahead of that, a teaser trailer has been released.

Following the format that the show has followed since its 2019 debut, the new series will give a behind-the-scenes look at last year’s F1 season. In case you missed it, that was the most dominant season in Formula 1 history, with Red Bull winning 21 of the 22 races and Max Verstappen clinching the championship with almost double the points of second-placed teammate Sergio Pérez.

The trailer begins with a look at some of the drivers and team principals enjoying their offseason before we’re thrust straight into the action.

Red Bull’s sheer dominance will be a running thread – indeed, we hear McLaren’s Lando Norris remark that he wants to “walk into Red Bull and steal their car.” Elsewhere, there’s insight into inter-driver tensions at Alpine, Lawrence Stroll’s ambitions to make Aston Martin a championship contender, and what seems to be a look at the Red Bull test session that led Daniel Ricciardo to make a return as a mid-season replacement for Nyck de Vries at the now-renamed Alpha Tauri.

We also see Lewis Hamilton discussing his future at Mercedes with team boss Toto Wolff, something that we see in a whole new light now we know Hamilton is heading to Ferrari for 2025.

Oh, and there’s lots of trademark swearing from Guenther Steiner. Quite frankly, that’s one of the biggest draws of the show, so Netflix is going to have to up its marketing game a little for series seven now he’s been ousted as Haas boss.

It’s going to be interesting to see Netflix’s take on an F1 season that will go down in history for one team’s unwavering dominance. The show’s always managed to find some drama and suspense in the sport, even if it’s occasionally felt a little manufactured, so it’ll probably deliver on the 2023 season, which had some fascinating midfield battles going on beneath Red Bull’s steamrollering of the grid.
