This Extreme Ariel Atom Cop Car Would Be The World's Coolest Thing To Get Pulled Over By
If we were to draw up a list of cars we’d never have expected to see decked out in police livery, the Ariel Atom would probably top it. That’s why we’re rather surprised but very happy to see Avon and Somerset Constabulary’s latest whip. It’s not a bog standard Atom, either. What’s being dubbed as the ‘Ariel Atom PL’ is based on the 3.5R, which means 350bhp from a Honda-sourced 2.0-litre four pot. It’ll do 0-62mph in 2.6 seconds, and 0-100mph in six seconds.
You’re unlikely to see one of these in your rear-view mirror with the blues and twos going, however. The car has been created in partnership with Ariel to promote the Safer Rider campaign - which aims to reduce motorcycle deaths on UK roads - ahead of the sports car company releasing its first motorbike.
Regardless of it being a temporary transformation, all the details are here: the livery matches that of Avon and Somerset Constabulary’s other more ordinary cars, there’s emergency equipment on board, and functioning flashing blue lights above the engine intake and in the nose cone.
