This Famous Vlogger Almost Got Bike Jacked

Well known bike vlogger Royal Jordanian filmed the unnerving moment a pair on a scooter looked to be eying up his bike for a possible theft

Given the fact there were two people on the scooter, it lacked a rear number plate and that the rider went straight through a red light when the possible theft was apparently aborted, it seems very likely that the intention here was a bike jacking.

Although no official figures have been published, it has been alleged that motorbike thefts like the one Royal Jordanian appears to have just avoided are on the rise in London. Motorcycle Action Group Director of Communications and Public Affairs and former MP Lembit Opik is quoted by the Evening Standard as saying: “This is not a new phenomenon but it’s massively more serious than it was before.”

He went on to urge bikers to be alert, and to “avoid ending up in vulnerable positions,” something Royal Jordanian did very effectively by backing away from the scooter duo.

Be careful out there, folks…

EDIT: We’ve since been sent the video below (hat tip to Andy!), which looks to show the very same scooter plus rider/pillion attempting to steal another bike in London, this time one parked up. The description for the video - uploaded in May 2016 - claims the bike was actually stolen by the same people four weeks before, but recovered by police.

He says he made a mistake, but his situational awareness was absolutely spot on. I’ve no doubt that was going to go bad.

Situational awareness should be taught in schools, not just for the roads but for everyday life.

Hey, I just met you,
And this is crazy,
But I like the bike,
Give it to me, maybe!

Stealing a bike in traffic in broad daylight using a scooter wth no plate number? Those guys have a lot of guts to try and pull that off! Good thing Jordan spotted that.

But how can they have no numberplates? I guess it is not difficult to get away from the police in a city with a scooter, but still… These *s should be rammed off the road the first sight…

I’d go full Liam Neeson on these if they had stolen my bike!

How would they have stolen the bike? I don’t ride bikes but would they have just pulled him off it or pushed him over? Pulled a knife/gun maybe? That’d be ridiculous in a public setting.

Though not wholly unbelievable.

If they do this in Indonesia they would be burned to death by the crowd because the victim will shout and people around the scene will come and beat them to the point they almost can’t walk and in some cases the thief is dead. #JakartaKeras
