Ferrari 812-Fighting Aston Martin Vanquish Successor Confirmed For 2018
With the wraps taken off the Vanquish S Ultimate earlier this week, the end is nearing for Aston Martin’s flagship coupe. So, what comes next? A car intended to give the Ferrari 812 something to think about, that’s what.
Speaking to Autocar, Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer confirmed that the replacement for the current Vanquish will appear and go on sale next year. He also said that the car will be “developed to compete with the Ferrari 812 Superfast.”
That’s quite a statement of intent, and a sign that the Vanquish will be a much more focused affair than the current car, which is best described as a sporty GT. The next Vanq - which Palmer says is “bloody good” - will be built on the DB11’s platform, and use the DB11’s 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12. We can expect its 600bhp output to increase to a figure much closer to the 700bhp mark.
Watch your back, Ferrari…

Every one’s talking about Aston downsizing, but you all forget that could be worse (like going hybrid, downsizing further or shivers getting a V6 with 2 big turbos).
I don’t think it will be able to compete with the 812 on outright speed. I’m predicting it’ll be one step lower in performance, but considerably better as far as luxury is concerned.
The 812 delivers 800HP at 8500RPM and weighs 1525Kg dry. Dream on Aston!
