Ferrari Is Building A More Hardcore 488 'GTO' With 700bhp
Ferrari is not happy about the sheer speed of the Porsche 911 GT2. Not happy at all. That’s good news for the automotive world, though, because the Italians have resolved to make their 488 supercar much more aggressive.
The angry new addition is potentially going to be called the 488 GTO, which would make it just the fourth Ferrari ever to wear the extremely special badge. If the company stops short of that honour the car will use a name in the same vein as Challenge Stradale, Scuderia and Speciale.
Target power is a beefy 700bhp, with torque getting a big boost as well. The interior will be stripped of anything superfluous, the glass will be thinned and the brakes, inside weight-saving forged alloys, will be chopped-in for lighter carbon-ceramic ones.
Autocar predicts a kerb weight of less than 1400kg, with a 0-62mph time of about 2.7 seconds and a 0-124mph charge in just 7.5 seconds. The McLaren 720S does it in 7.8 seconds as standard, while the GT2 takes 8.3.
New bodywork should add even more functional downforce on top of the regular car’s 325kg, which means, much like the totally single-minded McLaren Senna, the hardcore 488 might not be quite the looker that its softer brother is.
Prices of over £215,000 are looking likely, but much could depend on the car’s ability to snatch back a few points in the speed and lap time arguments. After all, being the fastest does seem to matter to Ferrari. A lot.

As Top Gear said about the 599, it shouldn’t be called the GTO.
The GT RS2 measured 0-200kmh in 8.5sec by Sportauto magazine
The only GTO I’ll ever want…
Nice! If it’ll be a GTO, it must be really amazing. But 700hp doesn’t seem a lot compared to the 720S which claims 710 but is probably considerably more powerful than that. Maybe Ferrari will make up for it with crazy aero or loads of weight reduction…
Jeremy Clarkson will drive one and then he’ll LITERALY get pneumonia!!!!
To get this car you must have a LaFerrari, a LaFerrari Aperta, an F12 tdF, 2 Enzos, 25 Californias, 20 458s, 10 488s, 5 812 Superfasts, 2 F40s, 1 F50, 1 288 GTO, 3 599 GTOs, and 1 250 GTO…and Ferrari’s permission.
Or you’re a rockstar from a Band that has lost all it’s popularity 30 years ago.
You forgot the 599XX, the FXX, the FXX K, the F40 Competizione, the F50 Evoluzione, the 612 Scaglietti Sesenta, the 575 Superamerica, the 550 Barchetta, the 458 Speciale, the F430 16M, and the 360 Challenge Stradale. All owned, of course, by the same guy.
Is it just me or is this power thing going too far? for gods sakes, this thing has nearly double the power a Formula 1 car had in the late ‘60s and it’s street legal. Have we all gone mad or something? I see more fun in driving a car that lacks power than driving a car with ludacris amounts of power, because you’d be able to floor it constantly without many consequences or risk of anything.
A 60s f1 car didn’t have wide tyres,tc,abs, esp and a verrrry strong chassis this ferrari does
FINALLY A NEW GTO! Almost been 10 years since the last GTO
OH BOI
