The Ferrari FXX K Evo Is A Weaponised Serving Of Aero Geekery

The anticipated Evo package for the LaFerrari-based track car is here, giving a massive increase in downforce

Hyper-rich track day addicts of the world rejoice: the ridiculously extreme Ferrari FXX K has been given the ‘Evo’ treatment. It follows Evo versions of the FXX and 599XX, taking the already rather serious LaFerrari-based monster even further in the aero department.

The changes are the product of a whole year of CFD simulations and wind tunnel tests, with the most obvious alterations being at the rear. Gone are the distinctive tailfins, replaced by a massive fixed wing, which works in “seamless synergy” with the existing active rear spoiler.

The ‘shark fin’ is also new. It increases stability, and supports the vortex generators, which play around with the air flow to the rear wing for an extra 10 per cent increase in downforce generated by the redeveloped rear.

The raft of changes at the rear meant the front had to be fiddled with too, ensuring the whole package is balanced. The front bumper has been reshaped, with new intakes, vertical turning vanes and gurney flaps giving a 10 per cent increase in downforce.

Something you can’t see is a set of vortex generators on the undertray, which increase ground effect, and there are also new front brake cooling intakes which perform better without increasing drag. Finally, the suspension has been recalibrated in response to the massive increase in downforce, which amounts to 23 per cent, or to put it another way, 75 per cent more than a LaFerrari.

It now generates 640kg of downforce at 124mph and over 830kg at its top speed, but there are a few changes unrelated to extreme aerodynamic geekery. The steering wheel is new, and features F1-style in-built gear shifters. There’s a larger screen for the rear-view video feed too - it’s now a 6.5-inch unit.

The FXX K Evo will be available as an “extremely limited-run model,” or as an upgrade package for existing FXX Ks. And we suspect most existing owners will be wanting that upgrade package…

They should team up with Mitsubishi and make a 1500hp Ferrari FXX K Evo IX FQ1500 4WD version and throw it on a rally stage
