The Ferrari Roma Is Maranello's Curvaceous New V8 Coupe
We’ve been expected Ferrari to reveal a Portofino coupe for some time now. It’s been rumoured for aeons and we’ve seen a few test mules doing the rounds, but what Maranello has revealed today is not a tin-top Portofino. At least, not quite.
The new Ferrari Roma has roughly the same footprint (the wheelbase matches and it’s only slightly longer) as the Portofino plus the same 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8, but along with the new name, the car has its own bespoke, swoopy bodywork.
The V8 here is slightly more powerful, developing 612bhp. Or if you’d appreciate an unintended front-engined Ferrari reference, 456kW. The full power figure comes in at a very un-turbocharger-like 7500rpm, while peak torque of 560lb ft is felt between 3000 and 5750rpm.
All of that is sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox borrowed from the SF90 hybrid hypercar. 0-62mph happens in 3.4 seconds, 0-124mph is over and done with in 9.3, and the top speed will be over 199mph. So shall we just say 200?
That’s a tenth quicker than the Portofino for the 0-62mph sprint, and a whopping 1.5 seconds brisker for the 0-124. The new gearbox will help, but the Roma also has a big weight advantage - at 1472kg (dry), it’s 73kg lighter.
Like the exterior, the interior looks wholly different from anything else in the current Ferrari stable. There are some familiar bits though - the steering wheel and digital instrument cluster look to have been pinched from the SF90.
For now, that’s all we know. This is merely what we’ve gleaned from a brief press release Ferrari has put out as a sort of teaser, ahead of the big reveal on Thursday.
What do you think of Maranello’s latest model?

Love the interior, not sure about the front, back looks great
I feel like Ferrari have a habit of not getting the front end quite right in recent times. I think the only cars that got it right this decade are the LaF and F8
Rear end of a 718, side profile of an F-Type and well… the nose is very different from anything else. Nothing is distinctively exotic in pictures, at least. Nothing screams “Italian” or “Ferrari”.
Front looks like a mix of that mazda “rx9” render and modern Astons imo
Looks like the F Type and the Vantage had a baby. The vantage already looks a lot like the F type
Nice aston martin
to me it looks like an aston martin and a 720s
My thoughts😂 hallo, this is the all new asto… ferrari
Can’t see Aston personally.. to me the front looks like the new Supra and the interior looks like a 918
I love it.
To me it looks like a 2020 version of the 612 Scaglietti
How very 1960s Pininfarina… Very cool
I like it! There is a something of a Ferrari Daytona to me…
It’s a modern 60’s Ferrari, absolutely gorgeous
