We now know what Ford will be calling its new all-electric sporty crossover. Yep, the Blue Oval is tapping into its history hard to flog the BEV, calling it the ‘Mustang Mach E’. We suspect this may cause some consternation amongst the Pony Car faithful.

Ford is dubbing the car “the newest member of the Mustang family,” although the link between it and the internal combustion-powered ‘Stang is tenuous at best - there are a few styling nods as seen on recently-spied Mach E test mules, but that’s about it.

The Mustang Mach E will sit on a bespoke platform, and while we don’t have any exact details about the powertrain, we do know that the range will be 373 miles going by the WLTP cycle. That’s quite a bit more than the Audi E-Tron, Jaguar I-Pace and Mercedes EQC manage, but in a car that’s likely to be significantly less expensive.

We’ll find out how much it costs on 18 November, when Ford will be revealing the car in full (with some help from Idris Elba) in Los Angeles, while also opening order books.

How do you feel about this use of the Mustang name?

now let’s hope they make an actual electric mustang after this abomination. not to replace the combustion lineup but as an addition. Just a mustang GT body with 900 electric horsepowers. I wouldn’t mind.

No let’s not hope that. A Ford Mustang without an ICE engine is not a Mustang. The Ecoboost and V6 I can let slide but just barely. Idc how many downvotes I get but this is the opinion of me and 99% of enthusiasts. Although an electric car by Ford would be cool, but just not a Stang

Boyfriend: Hey babe, you wanna go out with me in my new Mustang?

Girlfriend: You have a new Mustang?! This will be the best date ever!

(sees her boyfriend’s new “Mustang”, which is actually the new Mustang Mach E electric crossover)

Girlfriend: Really? THIS is your new Mustang?

Boyfriend: Yes, but it’s good, right?

Girlfriend: I’m breaking up with you…

i swear to the ever living Christ (christians, im sorry) that if they use a CROSSOVER and give it a mustang name, let alone make it electric, hell will freeze over, and all companies deserve to shoot ford in the balls. im all for economy cars, but dont call and economy car something that has been one of the 4 staples in american motoring history, and wasnt intended to be economy.

At least those with a family can finally have a Mustang and not argue with their wife about the thing’s practicality
but why

this f*ckery is one step closer to killing the mustang altogether. Next they will make the mustang electric, then after that phase out the coupe body.
The final blow will be an SUV Mustang called “coupe”.

Brilliant! I can’t think of any better way to dilute your brand.
