Ford's Beefy New Mustang Will Bother An E60 M5 V10 To 62mph

Ford's all-new Mustang will hit 62mph as fast as a V10-powered M5 (with a small tail wind), despite costing just £33k. This is value-for-money at its best!
Ford's Beefy New Mustang Will Bother An E60 M5 V10 To 62mph

When Ford revealed the pricing strategy for its new Mustang, we all lost our minds (especially in the UK where cars ain’t cheap). Here was a muscle car that looked a million dollars and that would be powered by either a 2.3-litre Ecoboost or burly 5.0-litre V8, but that didn’t have the price tag to match; £28,995 for the Ecoboost and £32,995 for the V8 is, as we said the first time around, a ‘steal’.

Now, we bring you even more good news. Performance. The 317hp 2.3-litre car will hit 62mph from standing in 5.8 seconds, while the 421hp 5.0-litre V8 will cover the same benchmark speed in only 4.8 seconds. For anyone familiar with the 500hp E60 M5 (everyone), that figure is just 0.1 seconds down on the V10, which should make for some interesting drag racing in the future.

According to Ford, more than 2200 people have already placed orders for the cars (70:30 split in favour of the V8) which will hit continental Europe in July and the UK in October.

In 2016, the 5.0 model will be beefed up to 500bhp, which should drop the car’s 0-62mph figure to around 4.5 seconds. Bring on the noise!
