Ford's New Mach 1 Will Be A Focus-Based FWD Electric Crossover
The Mach 1 name is a legend. Used by Ford on various Mustangs from 1969 to 1978, it returned for a brief stint on the fourth-gen pony before disappearing for good. As Ford announced a few weeks ago though, it’s coming back, and in a form that might not go down too well with purists.
We already knew about the new Mach 1 being an electric performance SUV, but now Autocar is reporting that it’ll be a front-wheel drive and based on the ‘C2’ architecture used for the new Focus. If those Mustang fans weren’t triggered already, they probably will be now.
The electric crossover will have some Mustang-derived styling features to go with the Mach 1 name, and will be joined by another resurrected Ford moniker: Bronco. These two cars - both expected to arrive in 2020 - are part of a crossover/SUV product offensive from Ford, which will see the firm kill off most of its conventional passenger cars in the North American market.
Thanks to Ford’s new global strategy, we can expect both to be sold in the UK.

And for a good reason. An engineer is worth far more than an experienced mechanic. Why? Because engineers are the one who invent, mechanics are the one who learn how to fix. And no, marketing team decided to name it Mach 1, the engineer had no infulance
This could actually be quite decent
I don’t get why. EVs are cheaper and easier to make rwd.
Is it… April fools??
As one of the “Mustang fans” spoken of, I can confirm, I am triggered.
Ford is just going down the same brain damaged rabbit hole as Mitsubishi did
Fellow friends a new age is coming, and this is the fallout.
There will be no shelter, generations from now when mankind refers the names of great cars such as Mach 1, bronco, lancer, eclipse they will not be talking about the legendaryness that is behind, instead they will be talking about something which by itself is already a disappointment.
We petrolheads were born, lived, and now It’s our time to perish in time.
This world has nothing else to give us besides disappointment.
You lost me at Crossover.
