Ford's New Mach 1 Will Be A Focus-Based FWD Electric Crossover

The Mach 1 name is a legend. Used by Ford on various Mustangs from 1969 to 1978, it returned for a brief stint on the fourth-gen pony before disappearing for good. As Ford announced a few weeks ago though, it’s coming back, and in a form that might not go down too well with purists.

We already knew about the new Mach 1 being an electric performance SUV, but now Autocar is reporting that it’ll be a front-wheel drive and based on the ‘C2’ architecture used for the new Focus. If those Mustang fans weren’t triggered already, they probably will be now.

The electric crossover will have some Mustang-derived styling features to go with the Mach 1 name, and will be joined by another resurrected Ford moniker: Bronco. These two cars - both expected to arrive in 2020 - are part of a crossover/SUV product offensive from Ford, which will see the firm kill off most of its conventional passenger cars in the North American market.

Thanks to Ford’s new global strategy, we can expect both to be sold in the UK.

Imagine how bad ass the new mustang would have been if they made a limited run Mach 1 edition, but no this * decided to go full Mitsubushi and stain a legendary mame, honestly it doesnt look bad, but needs another name
