The Ford Fiesta is a byword for class-leading dynamics, great quality and impressive engine performance for the small car segment. With the addition of this new Zetec S Red and Black Edition pairing, Ford’s raised the bar once again, and not only in terms of attractive design.

The biggest news here is the new model’s 1.0-litre, three cylinder engine which, until now, had a maximum output of 123bhp. Thanks to tweaks to the little unit’s boost control, valve-timings, intercooler and throttle management, Ford has extracted 138bhp, which marks a 12 per cent increase in power.

This new figure also makes the hot triple the most powerful 1.0-litre volume production car engine ever. As is currently the case, the new and improved engine should find its way into the B-Max, C-Max, EcoSport, Focus and new Mondeo ranges.

Fitted to the Fiesta Zetec S Red and Black Editions, the new engine will launch the car to 62mph in 9.0sec, before getting to its top speed of 125mph.

Externally, the new models pack 17-inch alloys, a body kit and a contrast colour roof. The grille surrounds are also more distinctive and the door mirror housings given a lick of contrast paint too.
