I’m just back from Ford’s preview event ahead of the Geneva motor show. In the presentation with Ford bosses - including Raj Nair, Dave Pericak, Tyrone Johnson and Jurgen Gagstatter - a few juicy details were hinted at. The first nugget of info is pricing of the new GT supercar, which is said to be in the same ballpark as the £260,000 Lamborghini Aventador.

Unlike the Aventador, however, the GT will do without a 6.5-litre V12, instead making good use of its 3.5-litre Ecoboost V6, which will produce over 600hp. That figure means it’ll be the most potent Ecoboost engine ever made by Ford. Because much of the car is made out of carbonfibre, we’re also promised a great power-to-weight figure.

The GT will be built in Canada and will be produced in the hundreds of units, not the thousands. This will ensure absolute exclusivity for customers and should mean that prices will remain high for years to come.

The reason not to opt for a hybrid powertrain - as is the trend nowadays - was to keep the GT’s weight as low as possible and to also ensure that the supercar’s aerodynamics aren’t compromised.

I’ll be reporting live from the Geneva motor show tomorrow and Wednesday, so stay tuned for more info as it drops.
