Formula 1 Is The Worst It Has Ever Been According To Bernie Ecclestone

Bernie Ecclestone has come back around the revolving door and criticised his own sport once again. So, what’s he saying this time? According to Ecclestone, F1 is the worst it has ever been at the moment.

He went on to add that he wouldn’t spend his own money to go and watch races, and we’re only a few days into winter testing for the new 2016 season…

Granted, 2015 wasn’t a great year for F1 and a fair few races were pretty dull, but is it the worst it has ever been? That seems like a bit of an exaggeration. While Mercedes may have dominated, the engines may be quieter, spread of revenue is far from equal and costs have risen considerably, there are still plenty of good points about F1 too.

We did witness some great battles in 2015 and you can hardly fault Mercedes for basically doing a better job than everyone else. Alongside that, the fights in the midfield are always entertaining and there’s loads of young talent on the grid in 2016, such as Max Verstappen, Carlos Sainz Jr, Pascal Wehrlein and Kevin Magnussen.

Regulations have remained stable over the winter but that provides teams with the perfect chance to improve on their 2015 cars and step closer to Mercedes. We could well see a much closer field in 2016, while we have a brand new team - Haas F1 - and some pretty awesome-looking cars (like the W07 and Manor MRT05). Engines are also set to get a boost in volume, which is a welcome change.

Formula 1 Is The Worst It Has Ever Been According To Bernie Ecclestone

Here’s what Ecclestone told the Daily Mail about F1’s current state:

“I think I can say that I’m a bit of an exception in Formula 1 today — I have a vested interest. I want to do what is best for Formula 1. I don’t need the job. I don’t need the money. Most of the participants are only thinking about what’s good for them in the short term. Long term for most of those people is two or three races. The result is that Formula 1 is the worst it has ever been.

“I wouldn’t spend my money to take my family to watch a race. No way. What’s the point when you pretty much know — and the bookmakers know, and they’re not stupid — that Lewis Hamilton will probably put the car on pole and more likely than not win the race, and the other Mercedes will be on the podium?”

So is F1 the worst it has ever been? I disagree with Ecclestone and I’m optimistic things will be much better in 2016. What do you think? Share your opinion in the comments!

The man who ruined F1 says it’s the worst it’s ever been and gotten.

Doesn’t sound like a problem with F1…

He needs to go. F1 needs a new boss with new ideas. He had been at the helm for too long and been one of the causes of this stagnation.

first of all if you can read closely between the lines he’s saying that F1 have become sort of a setup. you know who will win and who wont because of economy, experience and quality.

Just remove all drivers aid bernie and it will be more interesting. Why F1 more interesting in 60’s through 90’s and early 2000’s decade? Because there’s no drivers aid or just a few by early 2000’s. What we saw was the raw talent of drivers not some expensive programs to help drivers not crash their cars.

Um…In the ‘80s and ‘90s the cars had more electronic assists than they have now. They had traction control and ABS, both of which have since been banned. F1 cars are harder to drive now, you are seeing more of the raw skill of the drivers. Sorry to break it to you.

He’s not wrong, what happened to the v10s? It’s supposed to be the most advanced motorsport but the cars are slower now than they were 12 years ago

actually the cars are quicker but appear slower, lap times are up and at highest in years. engine power is creaping closer to 1000bhp each year while being more efficient. if the engines were like 12 years ago and had to last one session the cars would be rediculously fast… oh nice can-can btw
