With New York City on lockdown, its normally bustling, traffic-filled streets are eerily quiet. But that didnā€™t stop one Gemballa Mirage GT owner finding things to crash into on Tuesday morning.

Ben Chen, former co-owner of the controversial Gold Rush Rally (note - weā€™d previously referred to Chen as the founder, but Gold Rush has since informed us otherwise), went on a drug-fuelled rampage in Midtown Manhatten, smashing into four parked vehicles in the process. Numerous bystanders caught the Porsche Carrera GT-based Mirage - one of only 25 made - on camera, posting its mangled form on social media.

One especially memorable video (below) shows the Mirage being driven off at speed with a wonky wheel dragging along the tarmac. In the distance, we can see what looks like the frunk lid flying off the supercar.

Weā€™d also like to draw attention to the Toyota Sienna minivan at the beginning of the video, the back end of which looks to have been caved in by at least a metre. Over at Road & Track thereā€™s CCTV footage of the impact that caused the damage, with Chenā€™s Gemballa hitting it so hard the Toyota is shoved out of frame.

According to the NYPD report, Ben Chen hit the first parked car and fled southbound along 11 Avenue, before hitting three more and finally coming to a stop near West 44 Street. The 33-year-old was arrested at the scene and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Impaired by Drugs and Reckless Driving.

Chen has a history of smashing up exotic cars. At the 2013 running of the Gold Rush Rally, he flung a McLaren 12C off the road and into an industrial unit - ripping much of the rear end off. The above video of Chen leaving a fuel station in a Mercedes CLK GTR shows how little care he seems to show his cars, and weā€™ve seen a few claims linking Chen with the wrecking of a manual Lamborghini Murcielago SV.

People like him should be deprived of their driving licenses and their cars

Totally. In the above cases, especially the GTR and the Porsche, owners should be vetted. Normal day-to-day exotics should be used for idiots like him.

As much as I love to agree on this, I doubt itā€™ll be possible because the owner of that car has family members who are billionaires in China and they have bailed him out again and again even with his past actions. And theyā€™ll probably do it again I imagine. 😕

They deserve a life ban from driving for that level of driving skill they have shown thereā€¦.

I think Mr. Chen should have been driving a Nissan Fairlady 350Z instead of these supercars. 98% of 350Z drivers are terrible at driving, sorry if Iā€™m wrong.

People who drive like that should be banned from driving for life, its unacceptable to drive that dangerously and be allowed to hold a licence, the only place that sorta driving IS acceptable is on a Demolition Derby course, NOT on the public roads!

Damn I envy his life perspective. Wreck expensive cars without any care of their worth. Thatā€™s what Iā€™m aiming for in my adulthood. What an idol :)

Iā€™m guessing a supercar manufacturers will bar him from purchasing their cars after this. Money talks, but I think reputation should be higher than that.

This would show the consequences of giving a Nissan Fairlady 350Z driver a supercar. The 350Z Fairlady is the Fairlady Z only Greta Thunberg loyalists would love. Whoever own that sort of car, regardless of the engine installed under the hood of it [stock or swapped], they are terrible drivers. Weā€™re talking about high-power supercars that costs lungs or kidneys here. If Chen was wrecking a 350Z, even when lightly modified, he will receive less hate and more respect from every automobile enthusiast in the planet because they know how dull , boring and terrible these 350Zs are even with mods. In these cases with the Carrera and the CLK GTR, as well as a Murcie SV, this is unacceptable. To me, this Ben Chen guy should be driving a stock Nissan Fairlady 350Z instead of these amazingly exciting and expensive sets of wheels. If somebody gave this guy a Corvette, that ā€˜somebodyā€™ would be the one every Corvette fan would put a bounty on.
