Good News: Maserati's Sexy 911-Rivalling Alfieri Confirmed
For us, the most beautiful car at the Geneva motor show a couple of months ago was the utterly stunning Alfieri concept. We're rather pleased, then, that in the same Fiat-Chrysler product plan that yesterday outlined Alfa's exciting future, the Alfieri was confirmed for production.
This is big news, and not just because it has looks that'll render you transfixed and dribbling incessantly. It's big news because Maserati has the Porsche 911 in its sights with the Alfieri. Maserati previously had a 911 rival in the form of the Gran Sport, but the Gran Turismo that came after wasn't a direct replacement, being a much more expensive, wafty GT car.
The coupe version of the Alfieri will arrive in 2016, with a convertible joining the range in 2017. It'll be powered by a front-mounted V6, with three available outputs: 404, 444 and 513bhp. The 404bhp version will be rear-wheel drive, while the other two will be four-wheel drive.
We get promised 911-rivalling sports cars from manufacturers all the time, but few can actually go toe-to-toe with Stuttgart's most famous offspring. We can't wait to see if the Alfieri makes the grade.
