This GT86 WRC Is Your New Favourite Rally Weapon
Toyota has announced that its motorsport division is working on a GT86 rally car for entry into the World Rally Championship's production series in 2015.
The GT86 CS-R3 will be built to R3 class specifications, so it will have a six-speed sequential gearbox, limited slip differential, adapted brakes and a modified engine. Best of all? It'll also keep its rear-wheel-drive format, which Toyota assures us "is sure to be entertaining for drivers and fans alike" - simply put, it'll be permanently, terrifyingly sideways. Awesome.
The team behind it is Toyota Motorsport Gmbh based in Germany. In the past the team has won multiple World Rally Championships and was home to Toyota's Formula 1 and Le Mans efforts. These guys are also responsible for the 86 that races in the VLN series (pictured above), and will apply that expertise to the rally car.
Toyota will unveil pricing and more detailed specifications soon. Until then we'll just enjoy Photoshoppers worldwide throwing together speculative Castrol-liveried 86s.
