Guy Tears Alert: Sinkhole Mania Eats 8 Precious Corvettes
After reporting on a VW Lupo and a Mercedes C-Class, which were eaten up by sinkholes recently, we have yet another, more substantial sinkhole vs cars story to report.
A giant sinkhole under the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky collapsed yesterday, swallowing up eight 'Vettes. At 5.44am Wednesday morning, the museum's bosses received a call from their security company to alert them that motion detectors at the site had gone berserk. Upon arrival, they found a huge sinkhole in the floor of the 'Skydome' exhibit - measuring 12 metres across and 7.5 metres deep - with eight Corvettes at the bottom. Six of the cars swallowed up belong to the museum, while the other two are on loan from General Motors.
The cars at the bottom of the sinkhole include:
1993 ZR-1 Spyder (on loan from GM) 2009 ZR1 'Blue Devil' (on loan from GM) 1962 black Corvette 1984 PPG Pace Car 1992 White One Millionth Corvette 1993 Ruby Red 40th Anniversary Corvette 2001 Mallett Hammer Z06 Corvette 2009 white 1.5 Millionth Corvette
The Skydome is separate to the rest of the museum, so while that part of the facility is unsurprisingly closed, the rest of the museum is still open for business. The dramatic moment the sinkhole started to open can be seen on the security footage below.
Bowling Green sits in the middle of an area known for its underground caves, leading to sinkhole incidents like this. We're sorry if this footage results in guy tears...
